How do stage hypnotists do it?

hypnotize people?

As one of the answer stated about being weak minded and plants is completely false. Weak minded doesn’t make someone easier to be hypnotized. One could easily argue that it could have the opposite effect.

But back to your question…

Hypnosis isn’t the mystical thing that Hollywood would have you believe. It’s a very natural state. Anytime you’ve lost track of time, or been driving and didn’t remember if you passed a road or not, etc, you’ve been in a hypnotic state.

Stage hypnotists always have something going for them. The volunteers that come up on stage, are willing and wanting to participate. Some of the testing they do when they have the "large group" of volunteers weeds out the unwilling and keeps the very willing.

From there you have some very willing and highly motivated volunteers, and really it’s no different than what a hypnotherapist would do. They guide them into a state of hypnosis, which is just a focused state of concentration (relaxation is not necessary, but typically they go for that) that by passes the more "critical factor" of your consciousness. So with that bypassed, your a lot more suggestible to do something, but only to a certain limit. You will not go against your morals or do anything against your will.

I’ve answered other questions about how hypnosis works, check through them, that will also provide some infomration.

Hope it helps, email is on the profile if you require clarification.

cheers,

Jose Custodio de Faria
A quirky fictional individual named Abbi Faria became popular when the movie “The Count of Monte Cristo, an adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas 1844 novel, was released in 2002. Few know, however, that the character of the old man imprisoned with Edmond Dantes in the sinister Castle of If was loosely based on Father Josi Custodio de Faria (known as Abbi Faria), a famous pioneer of hypnosis whose life was as exciting, adventurous and eventful as any swashbuckler.

How do hypnotists hypnotize people?

I have been and I am not sure how it all goes down. They take you to a relaxed state and it’s the power of suggestion. You focus, not unlike Lamaze or meditation, and then you kind of follow their lead.

I have heard that it all depends on your personality type–what method they use. Empathetic people are suppose to have an easy time being hypnotized and analytical people take longer and a different method is used.

Can anyone recommend any hypnotists in the NYC area who specialize in helping people with weight loss?

Once again, I ask that no "smart alecks" (and there are apparently quite a few on Yahoo Answers) reply. Only people with sincere, constructive responses. Thank you.

I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but if you’re serious about losing weight, just eat a healthy balanced diet and work out. There’s no one miracle cure for losing weight and keeping it off, you have to work at it. Do some cardio and strength training. Strength training (which builds muscle) is really important for weight loss because muscle tissue (which burns around 30 calories per pound a day) is more active at rest than fat tissue (which only burns about 2 or 3). The more muscle you have, the easier it is to keep the weight off. Think positively too, and you’ll get that weight off in no time.

I’m looking for some hypnotists that help with stop smoking located in Bozeman Montana?

My aunt got hypnosised to quit smoking and it worked! Now my mother would like to go and get it done, but the only problem is that my aunt lost the pamlet for her

look into my eyes–you shouldn’t smoke because it makes your breath smell bad and a bunch of other bad things.

Do hypnotists work – serious answers ONLY PLEASE?

I am wondering if hypnotists are for real. I have heard that people have gone to them for weight loss, and to quit smoking. I wondered if a hypnotist could help me forget something that is keeping me from moving forward in my life. I’m not joking, I really wonder if they’re for real, one of them might be able to help me with this ailment.
Thank you

Hypnosis only works if you want it to. Some people can’t be hypnotized, no matter how hard they try.

Hypnosis isn’t like what you see in movies, to where you have no memory of what you did.
Hypnosis is more like getting drunk. Really really drunk in some cases. You’ll do things that you wouldn’t normally because your mind uses the "hypnosis" as an excuse to do them.

To quit smoking and such, it can help but only if you want to quit. If you don’t want to, then the hypnosis won’t work.

You also can’t be hypnotized to do something against your morals or values, like killing your best friend or your family or anyone for that matter.

Hypnosis uses techniques that unlock certain parts of your mind while putting you into a semi-conscious state in which you are more susceptible to post-hypnotic suggestions.

More susceptible DOES NOT in any way mean you are helpless to the person’s hypnotic suggestions. You can easily resist them and you are aware of them.

What you want to do is tricky, it’s locking a part of your mind rather than unlocking it.

The hypnotist MAY be able to aid you in forgetting, but ultimately will NOT be able to lock it away forever.
Memory is something that is a part of you. It is what has shaped you and made you what you are.
In order to repress memories, you need to learn to let them go. A therapist or shrink would be more useful in these cases.

But remember, you can never fully forget, so you will always have to learn to live with it to some degree.
