Do you think my high school will let our Psychology club host a hypnotist?
I thought that maybe there would be some liability issues. what do you think?
My school has done it for years. I think they have to because it is a great learning experience.
no

I highly doubt it. The school could be sued.

At my high school, we had a hypnotist come and speak in our Psychology class and put someone into a trance.
I guess it depends what school you go to.
I went to high school in Los Angeles.

depends. if the club funds it and if the teacher supervises. a hypnotist works with the moind.if he sticks to making people think they are chickens every time a phine rings they might be ok if it is for learning purposes but if it they want him to do something malicious and expect the teachers to autpomatically give As then I think not. fo something like this, you might have to run it by them. your goals and what you expect to happen and the practical applications and you vision for it.

Show that the person is legit. anticipate and ease the faculty’s fears on the subject. maybe even suggest that volunteer faculty members would be the only people hypnotized. My HS was great about psychology and a few kids did do reports/ presentations on hypnosis. they just explained that it was a relaxed state and tried to hypnotize kids into falling asleep or something like that. anyway, i don’t remember there being any problems with that. though to be honest, little billy wilkinstien will never be the same.

Get a hypnotherapist, not a hypnotist. One is related to psychology, the other to theatrics and comedy. Hypnotherapy is becoming a reliable, credible therapy for dealing with many anxiety disorders and other psychological problems. Hypnosis is NOT a way to get people to do things they would not normally do. That is silly theatrics and discredits a very beneficial means of therapy.

It depends on the community and the leadership of the school. It only takes one concerned mother that is convinced the hypnotist are messengers of Satan and it’s all over. I think it would be a good learning experience for a Psych class though.
