Become psychologist or take come credit courses in psychology. I’m not sure which ones, so go to or call a college and ask them.

I asked a similar question a while ago and got a lot of silly replies. I have still not solved the dilemma myself, but chrysalis seem to have good training courses (look them up on the internet) . The best thing is to look for courses registered by regulating bodies of which there are several, some of the best courses are not accessible to me as I don’t live in the area in which they are held. Look up the main regulatory bodies and see which courses are accredited. It’s best to ask to speak to a few people who have qualified with them to see what they think, although the names you have been given are probably people who will speak well of them. The best courses are run by people who will take time and trouble to talk to you in detail about any queries you may have. Don’t even consider distance learning! Most reputable courses will take at least 10 months of weekends with work in your own time . Check that tutors are practising hypnotherapists as well.

I don’t know where you live, but many larger cities have hypnotherapy clinics that teach courses in the subject. I know there is a major, accredited school for this in the Los Angeles area (In Encino or Sherman Oaks, I think) called HMI Hypnosis Motivation Institute. Because it is accreditited, you can get a government student loan to go there. Their full course consists of six months of book study and six months of practicing internship where you work with real patients – under the supervision of your instructors, of course.
My daughter went through the first six months, so I got to see some of the study materials, and I would recommend it highly if it is geographically feasible for you. If it isn’t, then check the ads in the yellow pages under "Hypnosis" in your own city and you may very well find that one or more of the ads is promoting classes as well as therapy.
In any case, I wish you the best of luck with your ambitions. We need more good hypnotherapists.
