Hypnotists – what do you think?

I think hypnotists suck. But i have this theory – The only people who think hypnotists are cool have been hypnotized to think so. Am I wrong – or did I hit the nail on the head?

Actually there are those who say that hypnosis doesn’t actually exist – that it’s a complete waste of time and it only gives people an excuse to imagine they’re ‘hypnotized’.

I once worked for a ‘hypnotist’ who offered to ‘hypnotize’ me… Wow – it was such bullsh*t. I can’t believe adults believe in this nonsense. Really, truly light-weight flim flam.

That’s funny you think that. I’ve seen some people do some pretty funny stuff under hypnosis. So I think you are wrong. And it can be used to cure a lot of ailments of phobias. So it’s really beneficial for that.

You Hit the nail on the head and shoved it up an asscrack. Hypnotist are full of $hIt. Most shows where someone is being hypnotised the person is just an actor. On the others they are just as full as manure as the hypnotist. The hypnotist has no effect on you, you just hype your brain up where you think something is happening but it really isn’t. (Kinda like feeling the Holy Spirit but thats another story)

This is probably one of those questions you shouldn’t ask on this site, since you have yahoos willing to say things out of profound ignorance. Clearly those who have answered so far have absolutely no knowledge of hypnosis, hypnotism, or hypnotherapy.

At the turn of the 20th century, when Freud invited Adler to help co-found psycho-analysis, there were two ways to treat people with a neurosis: Throwing them into a tub of ice-cold water, or hypnosis. Neither worked very well.

Now that we know much more about the mind and personality, we know more about the ability of hypnosis to be useful in certain things. There are, of course, "stage hypnotists" who make people do "funny things" in front of an audience. The point is not funny things, but that they are able to get people to act that way…using a very powerful tool: hypnosis.

Hypnosis is useful in many ways, including reduction or elimination of pain, treatment of certain habits (over-eating, smoking), etc.

A hypnotherapist is a psychotherapist with the ability to use hypnosis in helping people with various personality disorders, through the trance-like state that enhances suggestibility. Such a person must usually be licensed by the state in which they practice, in addition to any other licenses or training or credentials they must have.

Hypnotists do not suck, as you so eloquently put it (you may want to work on your vocabulary!) any more than does you car mechanic, your dentist (who may use hypnosis for pain control instead of gas or novocaine), your parents, or your best friend.

I shall be extremely kind and simply say you are stupid to say such a thing. It’s time for you to figure out what you want to be when you grow up…which is to say, something other than an ignorant smartass. — Dr. Bob
